Woman police officer chopped in the head
Police are reporting that a Woman Police Constable was chopped in the head this afternoon.
According to information supplied by the police press officer, WPC Marilyn Pate was part of a team that included personnel from the Human Development Department that responded to a report of a domestic abuse report around 3 o’clock this afternoon in Trial Farm village, Orange Walk.
During the police intervention, it is alleged that Oscar Hernandez, the man who was being detained in connection with the domestic abuse report, managed to grab a machete and chopped the WPC twice to the left side of her head.
Hernandez then escaped. WPC Tate who is attached to the Domestic Violence Unit of the police department was rushed to the Northern Regional hospital.
She is listed in a stable condition.
Police are conducting a search in the Trial Farm area for Oscar Hernandez.
