Belize City, Belize. Friday, May 8, 2015. Burrell Boom resident Jamil Seguro is accused of fondling a teenager’s private area while she was bathing in the Belize Old River at Burrell Boom on April 23.
On Thursday, he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith and pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual assault of the 13 year old.
But he could not avoid jail after the prosecutor successfully objected to his receiving bail.
According to the court prosecutor, the alleged offence has become prevalent, the accused may interfere with the complainant if allowed out on bail and the alleged victim is a minor.
The Chief Magistrate sent Smith to jail on remand until July 23.
