Man charged for New Asia shooting
Belize City. Saturday, May 9, 2015. The man accused of shooting security guard Victor Hendy has been apprehended and taken to court.
20 year old Dixon Montero, a Honduran without legal immigration status in Belize, is charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm and used of deadly means of harm.
He appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer and was remanded into custody until June 3.
Hendy was on duty at New Asia Restaurant on Vernon Street around 8:50 Wednesday night, May 6, when he responded to a call from inside the premises.
He saw a man holding a pistol on the Chinese shopkeeper and stepped away to dial 911.
The gunman emerged from the inside of the restaurant and fired once at Hendy in the neck as he ran off toward Mosul Street with an alleged accomplice.
Hendy is now in stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
