Belize City man accused of discharging a firearm in public
Belize City. Sunday, May 10, 2015. A Belize City man was arrested and charged on Saturday night for the offences of possession of a firearm whilst intoxicated and discharging a firearm in public.
42 year old Reymundo Chan was detained and later arrested and charged following reports of shots being fired in an area on the Phillip Goldson Highway.
Police say they visited the compound of a business establishment at mile two and a half on the Phillip Goldson highway where they apprehended Chan, a resident of Belize City.
Police say they also recovered six expended shells and a 9-millimeter pistol with five live rounds of .380 ammunition.
Chan is expected to be formally arraigned in court this week.
In a separate incident, police say they recovered a .25 pistol and fourteen rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition during a search of an abandoned lot on Victoria Street in Belize City on Friday afternoon.
Police say they also found an empty magazine.
No one was in the area at the time of the find and police have deposited the firearm and ammunition as “found property.”
