Contracts for water expansion project signed

Belmopan. Thursday, June 4, 2015. A contract was signed on Wednesday for a project to bring potable water to the villages of Biscayne and Gardenia in the Belize District.

The project is being implemented by the Social Investment Fund at a cost of $999,408, with the funding coming from a loan obtained from the Caribbean Development Bank.

According to a government press release, the water supply project will directly benefit 155 households in the two villages by providing a reliable supply of potable water for Gardenia and Biscayne villages.

The water supply project will include the installation of transmission and distribution mains linking Gardenia village with BWS’ supply from the Mexico Creek.

Transmission and distribution lines will also be installed from mile 23 on the Phillip Goldson Highway in Gardenia village to mile 24.5 in Biscayne village.

Completion of the water project is scheduled for June of 2016.

Signing on behalf of the Social Investment Fund was the executive director William Lamb, Junior, while Chairman of Belize Water Services Alberto August signed on behalf of BWS.
