BTB awards tourism scholarships
Belize City, BELIZE. Tuesday, November 24, 2015. Nine Belizeans have been awarded scholarships by the Belize Tourism Board.
According to an official release, three of the scholarships are for 2-year Associates Degree studies at one of the Junior Colleges offering a tourism program.
The recipients are Giselle Rodriguez, Amina Cal and Monique Tucker.
Three of the scholarships are for Tourism Management studies at the Bachelor’s level at the University of Belize.
The recipients are Jewel Williams, Alexander Cal and Gariesha Teck.
The recipient of the Jean Shaw Tourism Scholarship, which is a full scholarship covering 2 years for a Bachelor Degree in Tourism Management at the University of Belize was awarded to Delmi Carillo.
The Jean Shaw Tourism Scholarship was established in memory of the late Jean Ursilla Shaw, a tourism pioneer, who played an integral part in the development of Belize’s tourism industry in her lifetime.
The scholarship is to support the development of qualified Belizean females pursuing a career in tourism.
Two of the scholarships are for $10,000 and the recipients are to take part in a culinary program.
The scholarship recipients are Natalia Silva and Angel Rodriguez.
The handing over of the scholarships was held at the BTB office late last week, where the 9 successful candidates were presented with their official packages for the scholarships.
The official BTB release says that the recipients were selected based on a score sheet which measured various factors such as grades, work and community service experience, essay describing their career goals/aspirations and their achievements/awards.
Director of Tourism, Karen Bevans, is quoted as saying that “these scholarships are provided to build capacity in the rapidly growing Tourism Industry, and to offer our youths the opportunity to aim higher and dream bigger in charting their career path.”
