Police appeal for help to recapture escaped prisoner
Dangriga, STANN CREEK. Thursday, December 3, 2015. Police are asking for the public’s assistance in capturing an escaped prisoner.
Lawrence Bernardez, 27, escaped from custody on Tuesday afternoon as he was being transported from Dangriga town to the Belize Central Prison in Hattieville village, Belize district.
Lawrence Bernardez, originally from the Lakeland area of Dangriga town, is of dark complexion, stands 6 feet tall, is of medium build and has shoulder-length dreadlocks.
The police is asking the public’s assistance in locating Bernardez and taking him back into lawful custody.
A press release from the Police Press Officer asks the public to “kindly detain” Bernardez if he is seen and to “inform Dangriga Police at your earliest.”
That same Police press release also warns the public to “be advised that when apprehending this suspect proceed with extreme caution as he is considered to be dangerous.”
As reported previously, Bernardez was one of three prisoners that were being transported from Dangriga to the Hattieville facility by police in an open pan pickup truck on Tuesday afternoon when the escape occurred on the George Price Highway in Hattieville village.
The second escapee, Eden Guzman, was shot in the leg while officers tried to subdue him.
Guzman was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for his gunshot injury.
