EDITORIAL: The Repercussion of Your Decision

EDITORIAL. Wednesday, January 6, 2015. A few months ago I interviewed a guest on my TV Show and she provided an insightful statement which included “…the repercussion of your decision”.

I was flabbergasted and optimistic in one.

These are strong words, and if our young people today take them seriously, the results of their actions in society would be a plus.

I have the concern that mediocrity of negatively clouded young people is continually leaving a big fraction of “the supposed future of Belize” in jeopardy. It is a problem. It is a big problem.

Many young people in Belize have the energy and passion to do extraordinary deeds. But, they are lingering.

Now, the questions remains, why are they lingering? Why do they believe that they are in the dark? There is mass complexity on the answer to these questions.

However, I strongly believe that the system that runs the society, that runs our country has been a disturbing yet rejuvenating system that “prevents” success of the disadvantaged rather than promote them. But, putting all this apart, there is still hope.

There is hope that our young people will think about the repercussion of their decision.

The system is there. It is like a “sun block”. But can we overcome this fear and this block?

Again, in my perspective, and given the energy and passion of young people in Belize, there is a NEED and yes, young people can overcome this!

With time, and hard work, and determination, there is a pavement for achievement.

But we need to think. Think small. Then think big. Think strategic. Think Belize.

Think about the repercussion of your decision.

What do you do in society? What can you do? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? How can you change things? What can you change?

These are key factors that need answers from our young people. If our young people are to properly advance, then we need to work harder.

We need to work longer than the rest. We need to push. We need to overcome whatever obstacles are out there.

Always think about the repercussion of your decision. Whatever you do now, will affect you either short term or long term. Young people in Belize have a mentality to think and do what will suit them for shorter terms.

This has to change. Now, I am not saying that this is bad.

I am trying to concur with the notion of “the best results for your best idea”.

Young people always have many different ideas which could become a reality.

However, they need to select the best idea and see what avenues they need to take to achieve success in the longer term. There is no time to waste with mediocrity and less time for short term effects.

The ultimate goal is to soar like an eagle. Soar High. Higher! Go beyond beyond!

I have had many obstacles in the past which have tried to deter my success as a poor, striving young man.

However, I managed to overcome them. I fought hard. I did not let anyone or anything get in my way. People might do you things. People might be threats. People will do whatever it takes to bring you down.

But I always thought about the repercussion of my decision. And that’s how I overcame obstacles.

I asked myself…what will give me the greater benefit? What do I want to be in the future? Do I want to be left out? Do I want to be the same person? Or do I want to become a better me for a better society?

I chose the latter. And that’s exactly the spirit I want to encourage in young people in this country today.

It is time you become a better you for a better society. It is time to stand up for the future of Belize. It is time to fight.

The time is way past for mediocrity.

It is time to think about the repercussion of your decision.
