Detainee escapes from police custody in Independence village
Independence, STANN CREEK. Thursday, January 7, 2016. TNC: Police at the Intermediate Southern Formation in Independence village, Stann Creek district has issued an advisory, asking the general public to be on the lookout for an escaped detainee.
29 year old Shane Bennett was detained at the holding cell at the Independence police station when he escaped sometime between 12 am and 12:25 am on Wednesday.
According to the police, Bennett was on remand for multiple crimes, including burglary and theft.
The police did not say how Bennett managed to get away from authorities.
The police say that Bennett is considered to be armed and dangerous as he is known to carry firearms.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Shane Bennett is asked to call the police emergency number 911.
