Men busted with sizeable amount of marijuana on the George Price Highway
Belmopan, CAYO. Thursday, February 11, 2016. Two men have been arrested on drug trafficking charges after they were busted at a checkpoint in Camalote village, Cayo.
They have been identified as 21 year old Travis Sutherland of Georgeville and 48 year old Anthony August of Santa Elena town.
Police say that around 4:30 am on Wednesday, they were conducting a vehicle checkpoint in Camalote village when they saw a vehicle approaching from the direction of San Ignacio.
Upon seeing the checkpoint, the vehicle made a “U-turn” and reportedly sped off in the opposite direction.
The police set chase after the fleeing vehicle and officers say they saw when someone from inside the vehicle threw out a large container and a luggage bag.
When the fleeing suspects were caught, police say Sutherland and August were taken to where the items were thrown from the vehicle.
A search of the container and luggage bag turned up 14,531 grams or 32 pounds of marijuana.
Sutherland and August were subsequently arrested and charged for the crime of drug trafficking.
