Belizean authorities capture Guatemalan near Valentin Camp
San Ignacio, CAYO. Saturday, March 5, 2016. Twelve hours after a Guatemalan national was injured during an encounter involving a joint Belize Defence Force/Friends for Conservation and Development patrol and Guatemalan civilians illegally inside of the Chiquibul Forest, Belizean authorities have captured another Guatemalan man who was illegally inside of Belize’s territory.
The name of the Guatemalan man has not been officially released, but we have been able to confirm that he was caught near Valentin Camp with a .22 rifle loaded with live ammunition.
The latest capture of a Guatemala national illegally inside of Belize’s territory was done by the Special Patrol Unit, and the suspect is now in lawful custody pending charges.
In the previous incident, news reports are that a Guatemalan poacher was shot in the leg during an exchange of gunfire involving Guatemalan civilians and Belizean law enforcement authorities in an area known as Cebada.
