Belize is represented at FAO meeting in Mexico City
Belmopan, CAYO. Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Belize was represented at the the thirty fourth United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The forum was held in Mexico City, Mexico from July 29th to March 3rd and representing Belize was Minister of Agriculture Gaspar Vega, Chief Executive Officer Jose Alpuche and Belize’s ambassador to Mexico Oliver Del Cid.
According to an official press release, Minister Vega took part in a panel discussion at the forum which discussed the theme of challenges for transforming the rural sector in Latin American and the Caribbean, where he spoke specifically on the Belize experience as it relates to core issues affecting the Caribbean.
One of the main outcomes of last week’s meeting was a decision by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to upgrade its presence in Belize with the formal establishment of a Liaison Office.
The official release notes that this is a first for Belize and should lead to deeper collaboration between Belize and the FAO.
The Belize contingent to the meeting also held bilateral talks with Mexico’s Secretary for Agriculture Jose Eduardo Calzada Rovirosa focusing on livestock trade and regional cooperation.
