San Ignacio, CAYO. Monday, April 4, 2016. There was a fatal chopping incident in Selena village in the Cayo district early on Saturday morning.
And it has left an elderly man dead and a younger man hospitalized in critical condition in Belize City.
Sixty three year old Edgar Aldana was chopped to the head and body and died on the spot during a misunderstanding around 3 am on Saturday.
The incident happened in the compound of the Government School in Selena village, a short distance away from Aldana’s house.
Another man, identified as twenty year old Ruben Manson was also chopped multiple times, including to the head and shoulder.
He was taken to the Western Regional Hospital for medical treatment and later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial in Belize City where he is listed in critical condition.
San Ignacio police are looking for two suspects, a Salvadoran and a Guatemalan, as their investigation of the incident continues.
Superintendent Richard Rosado who is the officer commanding San Ignacio police says that he believes that the suspects are still within Selena village but are moving from location to location trying to evade capture.
Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the chopping incident which turned deadly, but it is strongly believed that alcohol consumption may have played a huge role in the early Saturday morning bloodshed.
