Georgeville resident dies following “accidental shooting”
Georgeville, CAYO. Thursday, April 14, 2016. The family of Georgeville resident Earl Tillett, 53, is preparing to lay him to rest following an early morning shooting at his farm located behind the village.
Tillett sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of his face and was taken first to the San Ignacio Community Hospital for medical treatment, then later transferred to the Karl Heunser Memorial in Belize City where he died on Tuesday afternoon.
The official police report says that Tillett and another man from Georgeville had gone to Tillett’s farm around 7:30 am on Tuesday.
Once at the farm Tillett reportedly loaded his .22 rifle and the two men went in separate directions.
A short time after, the sound of a single gunshot was heard and when his companion made checks, found Tillett on the ground bleeding, with the rifle underneath him.
At this time the official police report says that Tillett “accidentally shot himself in the jaw”; but an investigation of the circumstances surrounding the tragedy is continuing.
Tillett is expected to be buried sometime next week.
