Men of San Marcus honor their women on Mother’s Day
San Marcus, TOLEDO. Sunday, May 8, 2016. The women of San Marcus village, Toledo, were today treated like royalty on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
About thirty mothers of the village were hosted to a program of activities organized by the men of the San Marcus Roman Catholic Church.
The food, including the traditional Caldo, was prepared by the men with help from their daughters.
The sound of joyous laughter filled the air in the village as the day’s activities unfolded, including lime and spoon, balloon toss, harp dance, watermelon eating, coke drinking and biscuit eating contests.
To wrap up the day’s event, gifts for the mothers were were presented at the altar by their children.
San Marcus is a predominantly Maya village situated along the Southern Highway about eight and a half miles from Punta Gorda town.
The village is home to just over 700 inhabitants.
