Independence, STANN CREEK. Wednesday, June 15, 2016. Two fishermen from Independence village, Stann Creek, were busted with out of season lobster on the eve of the opening of the 2016 Lobster Season on Wednesday, June 15.
Despite hiding the ice cooler full of out of season spiny lobster tails, 52 year old Lucito Sosa and 42 year old Elizardo Tut were busted on Tuesday by officers from the Conservation Compliance Unit of the Fisheries Department in Punta Gorda town.
The Fisheries officers went to Coco Solo Caye, which is situated east of Punta Negra village, based upon information received and carried out a search of the Caye.
The white ice cooler with 204 out of season spiny lobster tails, was buried in the sand, but the Fisheries Officers dug it up and found the illegal catch.
Sosa and Tut were summoned to appear in the Punta Gorda Magistrate’s Court on June 22 to answer to the charge of possession of lobster tails out of season.
The Fisheries Department is appealing to all fishers and the general public to uphold the country’s Fisheries Regulations.
