Taiwan gives donation for September Celebrations
Belize City, BELIZE. Tuesday, September 12, 2016. The September Celebrations are about a month and a half away; but today, the Republic of China, Taiwan made a sizable donation towards the cost of the national celebrations.
A cheque for $40,000 was today handed over to the chairperson of the National Celebrations Commission Diane Haylock by Taiwan’s ambassador to Belize Benjamin Ho.
The donation, according to an official release, will support the Commission’s programming for annual September celebrations in Belize, especially the Carnival King and Queen Competition and Pan Yaad Steelband Concert.
“Ambassador Ho and the Government of Taiwan continue to demonstrate tremendous support for the September Celebrations in Belize and the commitment to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries,” says a release from the National Celebrations Commission.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Belize’s Independence and the 218th anniversary of the Battle of St. George’s Caye.
