Janelle Chanona accepts nomination as candidate to be 13th. Senator
Belmopan, CAYO. Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Former television journalist and the current Vice President of Oceana-Belize Janelle Chanona has been nominated as a candidate to be Belize’s 13th. Senator, representing the Non-Government Organizations.
In a Facebook post tonight, Chanona writes “it is …with an overwhelming sense of patriotic pride that I announce that I have accepted a nomination to become Belize’s 13th. Senator.”
Chanona prefaced the big announcement by saying that “as a nation, we owe a debt of gratitude to the teachers, business community and civil society for their unwavering commitment to ensure the appointment of a 13th Senator.”
According to Chanona, she is taking on the nomination as a candidate for the 13th Senator with the full support of her family and her employer, Oceana-Belize.
“Everything I have done and said, and what I will do or say, has been and will always be in effort to be a constructive Belizean and to meaningfully participate the process of nation building,” writes Chanona.
The names of the other nominees for 13th Senator from the NGO Community have not been officially announced.
Chanona concludes her post by saying: “I extend sincere congratulations to my fellow nominees and enthusiastically look forward to the days ahead; we are only as strong as we make each other.”
