San Ignacio/Santa Elena youth given job preparedness training
San Ignacio/Santa Elena, CAYO. Friday, November 3, 2017. A group of three dozen young men and young women from the twin towns of San Ignacio/Santa Elena have successfully undergone training on job preparedness.
During the course of the 8 weeks of the training, the youth between the ages of 14 and 24 years received instruction in subjects such as skills identification, effective communication, conflict resolution, the labor laws of Belize and work etiquette.
The training of the young people was part of the Youth Rise Project, an initiative of the Ministry of Human Development.
It is a social intervention initiative that is supposed to help people in so-called “vulnerable groups” and the project is being implemented in the municipalities of San Ignacio/Santa Elena and Dangriga.
Funding for the initiative comes from the Caribbean Development Bank, CDB, with counterpart funding provided by the government of Belize.
The training course for the group of 36 young men and young women who graduated in San Ignacio/Santa Elena was designed by the Department of Youth Services and delivered as a collaborative effort of the Department of Youth Services office in Santa Elena town and the Cornerstone Foundation of San Ignacio town.
A second cycle of the job preparedness training will start in February, 2018.
Young people between the ages of 14 years and 24 years old who would like to get some job preparedness training should contact the Department of Youth Services office in Santa Elena town.
