Alejandro Padilla wins Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic
San Ignacio, CAYO. Saturday, March 26, 2016. The 88th Annual Cross Country Cycling Classic is now one for the history books.
And this Holy Saturday’s event has left a collection pain in the hearts of all Belizeans as Guatemalan national Alejandro Padilla rode away with the coveted garland.
Padilla and his brother Julio, rode into the finish line at BTL Park in Belize City well ahead of the first Belizean to finish the race, Joel Borland.
When the race reached the halfway point in San Ignacio, three riders were out front, including one of the Guatemalan riders.
Heading back to Belize City, Joel Borland and Brandon Cattouse put up a formidable challenge but in the end, they just could not reel in the Guatemalans who claimed first and second place finishes.
Brandon Cattouse was the second Belizean to cross the finish line, coming in fourth overall, and Bill Elliston rounds out the top five finishers.
