Seven Caribbean Community countries, including Belize, are benefiting this year from the Cultural Development Program, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, the IDB.

According to a press release posted on the IDB’s website, the Humana People to People organization in southern Belize is one of 45 regional partner institutions that will receive financing and technical assistance to assist cultural development projects.

In the case of Humana People to People, the partnership will facilitate the promotion of traditional Garifuna drumming and dancing in Barranco village.

The IDB release goes on to explain that the grants were awarded based on the project evaluation which relied heavily on their viability, educational scope and the effective use of resources.

The award was also based on the project’s ability to mobilize additional sources of financing as well as longer, impact on the community.

The IDB says that this year, the cultural center received 867 project applications.

The selection process included in-country vetting and pre-selection by the IDB country offices and then the final 443 projects were handed to a selection committee which made the final section of 45 project proposals that are received grants for 2013.
