BDF soldier dies in early morning traffic accident
A traffic accident around 1:30 am today in Ladyville has claimed the life of one man.
The victim has been identified as Belize Defence Force soldier Abimael Carrillo.
According to a preliminary police report, three BDF soldiers were riding in a pickup truck that was heading towards Price Barracks.
The driver of the pickup truck Juan Tuyub reportedly lost control of the vehicle as he turned on to the Old Airport Road and overturned in a culvert filled with water with its four wheels in the air.
Police say the vehicle was pulled out of the water and two persons were seen inside.
While the first person appeared to be well, police say the second person, now identified as Carrillo was in an unconscious state.
Police say the pickup truck, with the unconscious person inside, was towed to Price Barracks. Staff Sergeant Abimael Carrillo, according to the preliminary police report, was pronounced dead at 3 am today by a doctor at the BDF Medical Hospital.
Staff Sergeant Carrillo’s body has since been transported to the morgue at the KHMH where it awaits a post mortem examination.
The other BDF soldiers who were in the pickup truck that overturned have identified as Severo Cowo and Julian Coc.
