BDF soldier perishes in traffic accident
Orange Walk town, ORANGE WALK. Thursday, December 31, 2015. A Belize Defence Force soldier died in a road traffic accident last night on the Phillip Goldson Highway.
Around nine thirty last night, a passenger bus belonging to the Mexican ADO line, crashed into a government vehicle assigned to the Belize Defence Force.
The crash happened between miles forty one and forty two on the northern highway.
The massive impact of the collision completely destroyed the Mahindra that the two BDF soldiers was traveling in.
Belize Defence Force sergeant Artemio Mendez, who was driving the government vehicle, died in the collision.
A second BDF soldier was taken from the scene to the Northern Regional Hospital for medication treatment.
That BDF soldier has since been released from the hospital and is now under observation at the BDF Medical Center at Price Barracks, Ladyville.
At the time of the collision, there were about three dozen passengers on the north-bound bus that was heading to Cancun, Mexico.
The driver of the ADO bus who initially fled the scene, has been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
