Bravo for Belize’s National Junior Volleyball team.
Team Belize today defeated Panama in one of the more exciting games of the ongoing 15th Women’s U-20 Central American Championship. It took 5 sets plus extra points for Belize to defeat Panama with a final score of 19-17.
Belize won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22. But Panama bounced back, winning the next two sets 24-26, 23-25.
A release from the Belize Volleyball Association says that “in the 5th set Belize took a 3 point lead late in the set but Panama came back but Belize team remained composed and pulled it out 19-17.”
Statistics from the game showed that “Maurissa Williams was top scorer with 15 points (8 kills, 3 blocks, 4 aces). Sherika Burton had 13 points (all kills). Jashema Saunders and Leandra Betson each had 5 kills and 2 blocks.”
The Belize Volleyball Association says that after today’s hard-earned victory, Team Belize ranks 4th in the competition with 12 points.
The top team of the competition, Nicaragua, has 20 points.
Belize’s next game is against Guatemala. That game will be played on Saturday evening at 5 o’clock.
