Belize Weather Bureau warns of high risk of flooding
Punta Gorda, TOLEDO. Sunday, May 31, 2020. Tropical Storm Amanda, which formed in the Eastern Pacific Ocean this weekend, has moved inland over Guatemala.
Although TS Amanda will gradually weaken as it moves further inland over Guatemala, the proximity of the system to Belize is expected to generate more rain over Belize for the next couple of days.
As a result, flooding continues to be a cause for concern for communities near rivers and streams.
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas of the country should also be on high alert for the possibility of flash flooding.
The Belize Weather Bureau says that landslides are a “very high possibility” especially for communities along the eastern slope of the Maya Mountains.
The forecast is for similar weather conditions going into Monday night.
