Belmopan community group gets grant funding from US Embassy
A community organization in the nation’s capital has been given grant funding of US$100,000 to implement a program help young people stay drug free.
The organization known as the Belmopan Active Youths will target a group of about 45 youth leaders from Belmopan and surrounding areas for peer education training, while a further 360 out of school youths between the ages of 13 and 18 years old will be educated on the dangers of drugs.
All total close to three thousand youths stand to benefit from the program through various initiatives which include what is known as lock-in weekend programs, drama and song presentations.
The grant funding, which is from the United States embassy, will start flowing in October, ending in July of 2014.
Signing for the grant, at a brief ceremony on Tuesday morning were Grants Program Officer at the US Embassy Joseph Boski and president of the Belmopan Active Youths Anna Banner Guy.
