Bi-Election to be held on July 8
Belmopan. Monday, June 8, 2015. The government of Belize today announced that the Governor General, Sir Colville Young has issued a Writ of Election, designating Wednesday, July eight as the date for the Bi-Election to choose a new area representative for Dangriga.
As we reported previously, the Bi-Election is due to the resignation of Ivan Ramos.
Nomination Day has been set for Monday, June twenty second.
The formal notices of the Bi-Election date and Nomination Day are being published in this week’s issue of the Gazette and national newspapers.
So far, the declared candidates contesting the Bi-Election are Frank Mena for the United Democratic Party, (UDP) and Anthony Sabal for the People’s United Party.
Ramos is the second elected PUP representative to resign their seat in the House of Representatives, promoting a Bi-Election.
In November of 2014, Joseph Mahmud resigned as the area representative for Cayo North.
A Bi-Election was held on in January, which was won by Dr. Omar Figueroa who is now the area representative for Cayo North and was appointed a Junior Minister in the Prime Minister’s office.
