BTB says tourist arrivals “show improvements”
San Ignacio town, Belize. Friday, August 21, 2015. The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) today released the latest tourist arrivals statistics for the first seven months of the year.
And they show that overnight arrivals with a 1.6% increase in June and 3% increase in July.
The BTB statistics also indicate that Cruise passenger arrivals show an overall increase of 0.2%.
The official press release from the BTB says that “the 0.8% drop in cumulative arrivals through the first seven months of 2015, was partially attributed to the consistent decreases in the number of overnight visitors from the Canadian market.”
On the Cruise side, the BTB says that for there were “major increases” of 16.6% in January and 15.8% in March of this year.
A “slight decrease” of 2.7% was registered for February due to the cancellation of two ships “due to adverse weather conditions.”
In the wake of the “outlier year” in 2014 for Cruise tourism during the summer months, the BTB says that “the bookings for 2015 have maintained as scheduled and showed an increase of 0.2% cumulative.”
The BTB release says that the Board is projecting an increase in overnight arrivals for 2015 as it continues to diversify marketing “working on marketing initiatives into South America and Europe.”
