Business estabishment left holding bounced cheque
A Belize City establishment has been jilted out of thousands of dollars in merchandize by someone using a cheque that had more rubber in it than a pair of old tires.
According to police, in April of this year, a cashier at Caribbean Chicken outlet in Belize city accepted a cheque in the amount of $6,600 made out on an account belonging to a resort in the Orange Walk district.
The cashier said that believing the business transaction to be genuine, a total of 15 cases of eggs, one thousand pounds of red beans, two thousand, five hundred pounds of rice and 500 pounds of chicken were handed over to a man described as being of brown complexion, slim built, short black hair and standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall.
The cashier told police that the cheque that was tendered to Caribbean Chicken was deposited in the business establishment’s account at Scotia Bank, Belama Branch.
At the end of May, the Bank informed the cashier that the cheque was not genuine as no such account existed for the resort in whose name the cheque was made out.
Police continue to investigate this case of obtaining property by deception.
