Car belonging to Berne Velasquez goes up in smoke
By Patrick E. Jones on November 1, 2013
Belizean artist Berne Velasquez escaped injuries after his car caught fire and was completely gutted as he traveled on the Phillip Goldson highway a short while ago.
The incident happened about 5 miles away from Belize’s border with Mexico.
Corozal-based correspondent Lyndon Gillett reports that Velasquez had pulled off the highway to make a phone call when he smelled smoke and realized that his car was on fire.
Reports are that Velasquez managed to save a few of his belongings and that quick response by the Corozal fire department put out a fire which had ignited dry brush along the highway.
