CARICOM Secretary General gets job extension
Belmopan, CAYO. Saturday, February 20, 2016. The Secretary General of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM Irwin LaRocque has been given a job extension.
At the end of the CARICOM Heads of Government Inter-Sessional Meeting on Wednesday, February 17, the announcement of the reappointment of LaRocque was announced by chairman of CARICOM, Prime Minister Dean Barrow.
According to the CARICOM Secretariat, Ambassador LaRocque’s initial five-year appointment ends in August, but the Heads of Government decided to proceed with the confirmation of the reappointment at this time, rather than waiting for their next meeting in July.
Prime Minister Barrow told reporters that the decision to reappoint LaRocque as Secretary General was unanimous.
He went on to laud the SG for his outstanding performance during his first tenure in the job saying that LaRocque’s commitment to reform, the changes he has already made along the lines of obliging the Secretariat and the Community to become more productive, more efficacious, are well known.
Ambassador Irwin LaRocque is the seventh Secretary General of CARICOM.
