Charges laid in shooting of Belize City teen
Belize City police have arrested and charged Jermy McKoy, 21, for the crimes of attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerious harm. The charges are the result of a shooting incident Tuesday evening in Belize City in which Barry Johnson, 18, was shot in the left knee. Police initially reported that Johnson was on the Port Loyola basketball court along with other friends, when a man fired several shots into the crowd injuring Johnson.
Another shooting incident about three hours later on Tuesday night also sent another teenager to the emergency room. Everal Cardinez, 18, a resident of Hattieville village was shot in the left arm and left side around 8:35 pm on Tuesday as he rode his bicycle on Jones Street. Police say that Cardinez and his companion were accosted by a group of three men, one of whom produced a handgun and fired several shots at them. Police say they have detained five men and are seeking another as their investigation of the shooting incident continues.
