Chester Williams takes over Belize Police Department
A two-paragraph statement from the Ministry of National Security today announced the appointment, bringing the curtain down on 6 years of leadership of the Belize Police Department by former Commissioner Allen Whylie.
According to the official announcement, Williams’ appointment is effective Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
He takes over as the nation’s top cop at a time when the Police Department is under heavy scrutiny with allegations of corruption and in the case of another incident in San Pedro town, where uniformed officers were videotaped using excessive force against unarmed civilians.
The yearly statistics on the amount of major crimes, including murder continues to be high with just under 150 homicides recorded for 2018.
Chester Williams has served in virtually all Police formations across the country and he has completed his law studies and was called to the Bar in Belize at the attainment of his legal degree.
Our congratulations to the new Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.
