Children injured in apartment fire; mother in police detention
Police have detained the mother of two young children who were injured in a fire on Thursday morning in Belize City.
Shevaun and Skanika Reneau received minor burns and are undergoing treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation.
The injuries to the children happened during a fire at their apartment on Thursday morning. The heroic efforts of neighbors save the children’s lives when they broke down the door to the burning apartment and rescued the children.
The mother told authorities that she left the apartment around 11 am, leaving the children sleeping inside. The mother says that she was gone for about 25 minutes to run an errand and it was during that time that somehow the apartment caught on fire.
Police say they have detained the 25 year old mother of the children, pending charges.
