Christmas Day fire leaves Blackman Eddy village family homeless

By on December 27, 2013

Christmas, 2013 was anything but merry for Therese Maddison and her family.  That is because their house burned down less than an hour into Christmas Day.

The 3-bedroom concrete dwelling, measuring 40 feet by 38 feet was located atop a hill in Blackman Eddy village, not far from the bottom of Mount Hope.

The family was not at home at the time of the blaze which completely gutted the house that Maddison called home for the last 19 years.

Maddison, her common-law husband Leo Flores and their two children, ages Amber, 15 and Keith Maddison, 20, lost everything.

The estimated cost of the house, personal and household belongings, is put at about $200,000 by the family.  Neither the house nor its contents were insured.

Speaking with a spokesperson today, she said that the family believes that arson was the cause of the blaze and that an accelerant was used because of the rapidity with which the fire spread.

The Maddison family is appealing to the general public for help in getting back on their feet.
