Coast Guard officer laid to rest in Bullet Tree Falls village
Bullet Tree Falls village, Cayo. Saturday, April 11, 2015. Family, friends and colleagues came out in numbers today to pay their last respects to fallen Belize National Coast Guard Sea Man Aurelio Montero, Junior.
The 23 year old man died on Wednesday, April 8, after being hospitalized since he was found in an unconscious state on Holy Saturday morning.
Montero has been badly beaten and he never regained consciousness.
The flag-draped coffin of the fallen Coast Guard Sea Man was carried to the cemetery in Bullet Tree Falls Village this afternoon where Montero was laid to rest.
Police in San Ignacio meanwhile, have brought murder charges against two persons in custody, one of them a 15 year old boy.
Because of his age, the name of the 15 year old cannot be revealed; but the other person charged has been identified as 21 year old Windell Obando.
A clear motive for the brutal beating that led to Montero’s death has not yet been ascertained and the police investigation is continuing.
Authorities are also looking for a third man believed to have been involved in the brutal beating, who will likely also face a murder charge.
