Community leaders visit Chalilo dam

San Ignacio, CAYO. Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Members of the Public Participation Committee, established under the Environmental Compliance Plan for the operation of hydroelectric dams on the Macal River, today went on a field trip to the Mountain Pine Ridge area.
The journey took the PPC members to the Chalillo Dam where they got a firsthand view of how the facility works.

The Chalillo Dam is owned and operated by Belize Electric Company Limited, BECOL.
It is located about an hour and a half drive from San Ignacio town and was opened in 2005.
