Construction of Forward Operating Base well underway
Punta Gorda, TOLEDO. Thursday, February 11, 2016. The construction of the Forward Operating Base at the mouth of the Sarstoon River is proceeding as per schedule.
On Wednesday, the Minister of National Security John Saldivar and Junior Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Frank Mena along with a delegation of BDF, police and ministry of National Security personnel, traveled to the construction site for a progress report.
According to an official release, the Ministers and their delegation were shown the extent of the work done so far, which includes temporary installations done by the Belize Defence Force.
As explained in the official release, the Forward Operating Base at the mouth of the Sarstoon River “is one of several initiatives being undertaken by the Government of Belize to safeguard and protect our national sovereignty. The Forward Operating Base, though modest in its beginnings, will establish a much needed presence and will serve to combat illicit activities such as drug, contraband and human trafficking, and weapons trading, which threaten Belize’s national security.”
