Edmund Castro chosen as UDP standard bearer in Belize Rural North
Sand Hill village, Belize District. Monday, June 1, 2015. A constituency convention was held in Belize Rural North on Sunday to choose a candidate to contest the next General Election for the United Democratic Party, UDP.
The incumbent, Edmund Castro was challenged by former Chief Executive Officer Dwight Tillett.
Castro was resoundingly endorsed by his constituents, easily winning yesterday’s convention by a comfortable margin.
The official results show that a total of 2,170 persons voted in the convention.
Castro garnered 1,612 of those votes, while Dwight Tillett received only 537 votes.
There were 21 rejected ballots.
Edmund Castro will now square off against Lloyd Jones of the People’s United Party (PUP) in the next General Elections constitutionally due in 2017.
