Employee accused of forging employer’s cheque
An employee of Belize City businessman and City Councillor Roger Espejo is in big trouble for allegedly forging two of his employer’s cheques.
On Thursday morning, Espejo was informed by a financial institution in Belize City that two cheques from his business were being cashed.
An employee of the financial institution felt that the cheques were forged and called Espejo who confirmed that he did not issue or sign any of the cheques.
One of the cheques was made out in the amount of $545 and the other for $425.
Espejo, according to police, disclosed that upon making checks, found that four cheque leaves were missing from his cheque book.
Police say they have recovered $500 from the employee in question who has been placed in detention pending the outcome of the official police investigation.
