Family home gutted by fire in Benque Viejo del Carmen
By Patrick E. Jones on January 1, 2015
New Year’s Day in Benque Viejo del Carmen turned tragic for one family as their house was gutted by fire.
Orfelina Can and her family were enjoying a barbecue when the blaze erupted inside the wooden bungalow house just after 1 o’clock on the afternoon of New Year’s Day.
A frantic effort by family, friends and the Fire Service could not save the building.
No injuries were reported. It is not yet known what started the fire that destroyed the house.
An investigation by the authorities will seek to determine the origin.
