Fatal traffic accident on the George Price Highway
A man was knocked down and killed on the George Price highway in Hattieville village just before seven o’clock on Tuesday night.
The victim has been identified as James Harold Gongora, 47.
According to police, Gongora was riding his bicycle in an easterly direction when he was knocked down by a delivery truck with Orange Walk license plates that was going in the same direction.
The driver of the truck, Ernesto Vasquez, 25, told police that he was momentarily blinded by the high beams of an approaching vehicle and that was when he knocked down Gongora.
Gongora, a resident of Hattieville village was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital via BERT ambulance, but he succumbed to his injuries around 9:12 pm.
Police have served Ernesto Vasquez with a notice of intended prosecution.
