Fire guts buildings in Belize City
Belize City, BELIZE. Friday, March 24, 2017. A fire late this afternoon in the Majestic Alley area of Belize City has left close to five dozen people without a roof over their head.
According to reports from Belize City, the blaze erupted around 5 pm gutted at least three buildings, including one of two barracks that housed as many as 14 families.
The National Fire Services deployed multiple trucks to battle the blaze, but multiple accounts at the scene say it took a while before those fire trucks got into operation to fight the blaze.
Police quickly moved in to control the flow of traffic in the area to facilitate firefighters in battling the blaze.
A cause of the fire will now be the subject of an investigation by authorities.
There are no immediate reports of injuries to any person as a result of this afternoon’s fire.
Area representative for the Fort George area, former Prime Minister Said Musa, left the budget debate at the House of Representatives in Belmopan to visit with the fire victims who are his constituents.
