Fire guts principal’s office at Big Falls R.C. School
Big Falls village, Toledo. Tuesday, April 7, 2015. When classes resume on Monday of next week, the Big Falls Roman Catholic School in the Toledo district will be faced with a major setback.
That is because on Easter Sunday night the principal’s office was gutted by fire.
The principal of the school Gregorio Chi estimates that the loss due to the fire, including equipment, computers and books, is between $8,000 and $10,000.
The principal of the school says that around 10:55 pm on Easter Sunday he was informed that someone was trying to break into the main office and he immediately informed the village Alcalde.
Ten minutes later when he arrived at the school, the principal said smoke was coming out of the main door which had been forcibly opened.
The chairman of the village, Mr. Ramclam has expressed concern as it is believed that the fire was deliberately set and he appeals to anyone who can assist with cash, equipment or material to help replace what was lost to do so urgently.
Chairman Ramclam says that without a doubt, Sunday night’s fire is a setback to the progress of the school and the children’s education.
The incident is under investigation by both the Belize National Fire Service and the police.
