Football players rewarded for their honesty
Belizean football players Ian Gaynair and Woodrow West have been recognized internationally for the stance they took to refuse to take a bribe to offered to them to “throw” the Gold Cup game against the United States.
Media reports were that the two men were each offered thousands of Euros/dollars in exchange for fixing game 1 of the group play in the Gold Cup.
Gaynair and West refused the offer and immediately reported the matter to CONCACAF officials, earning them much praise for their impeccable integrity and honesty.
The latest citation for the two national team players arising out of their refusal to be bought, is an invitation from the president of UNCAF Rafael Tinoco to be his guest at this weekend’s final match of the Gold Cup at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Gaynair and West are scheduled to depart Belize on Friday to attend Sunday’s game. Congratulations to both Ian Gaynair and Woodrow West.
