Gardenia villager dies in road traffic accident
Belize City, BELIZE. Thursday, March 31, 2016. A man was knocked down and killed in a road traffic accident last night on the Phillip Goldson Highway.
45 year old Dean Dawson, Sr. was knocked down by an Isuzu DMAX as he rode is bicycle between miles 22 and 23 on the Phillip Goldson Highway.
Dawson, a mechanic from Gardenia village, died on the spot.
The driver of the vehicle, 34 year old Dorian Pakeman, told authorities that he was heading from the direction of Orange Walk towards Ladyville when he observed a cyclist going in the same direction.
Pakeman says that the cyclist suddenly swerved into his lane and a collision could not be averted.
When police arrived at the scene around 11:40 pm on Wednesday, they found Dawson’s body on the side of the road and the vehicle off the highway in some bushes.
Authorities proceeded to process thee scene and a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) was issued to Pakeman.
The vehicle, property of the government of Belize has been impounded and the police investigation of the incident continues.
