Government announces new price structure for butane gas
The government of Belize today announced changes in the price structure for the sale of liquid petroleum gas, commonly known as butane.
The new price structure becomes effective on Saturday, November 16, and as a result the price of a 100 pound cylinder of butane imported from Mexico will increase by $3 across the country.
At the same time, the cost of a 100 pound cylinder of butane imported from Central America will decrease/go down by $2 per across the country.
The new butane price list looks this:
IMPORTED FROM MEXICO IMPORTED FROM CENTRAL AMERICA
LOCATION Current / New Price Current / New Price
Belize City $118 $121 $118 $116
Belmopan $120 $123 $120 $118
San Ignacio $120 $123 $120 $118
Benque Viejo $121 $124 $121 $119

The Ministry of says that the prices for butane are arrived at based on the mixtures of 60:40 (Propane:Butane) and 90:10 (Propane:Butane) respectively.
Butane companies are required by law to clearly post the mixture of the butane they are selling at their plant and on the mobile units. If this is not being done, consumers are encouraged to call the consumer protection hotline at 0-800-283-5587.
The official release further states that the difference in prices are affected by scarce supply of butane during the winter months.
