High School vice principal accused of drug possession
Belize City, BELIZE. Monday, November 23, 2015. The Vice Principal of Wesley College in Belize City Melvin Hewlett has been arrested and charged for the crime of possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply to another.
According to the Gang Suppression Unit, the 35 year old educator and another man were seen standing in front of Wesley College on Friday and police decided to do a stop-and-search because “members of the GSU identified one of the male persons to be a known drug peddler within Belize City.”
The GSU release goes on to explain that as officers approached the two men, they observed Hewlett throw a piece of paper into the Wesley College compound.
Hewlett was escorted to the area where the object was thrown, and the GSU release says that when it was opened, revealed two transparent plastic bags with “buff bulky substance suspected to be crack cocaine.”
The substance, the GSU says, was weighed and tipped the scale at 14 grams.
Hewlett was subsequently arrested and charged.
The GSU press release did not say what happened to the other man they saw standing in front of the high school with Hewlett.
