Honduras wins 2017 Central American Cup tournament
San Ignacio, CAYO. Sunday, January 22, 2017. The Belize Jaguars are returning to the country this week on the tail end of the 2017 Copa Centroamericana.
Belize wrapped up its participation in their year’s Central American Cup tournament, falling to Honduras by a score of 1-0.
The Belize Jaguars managed to earn a sole point from a draw with Panama at the start of the tournament.
From there it was downhill for the National Men’s football team losing to Costa Rica 3-0; El Salvador 3-1; Nicaragua 3-1 and today to Honduras 1-0.
Belize scored two goals in the tournament, while the opponents racked up a total of 10 goals scored against the Belize Jaguars.
With the 1-0 victory over Belize, Honduras finished the Central American Cup tournament in unbeaten fashion and will take home to championship trophy.
The winning goal today was scored in the 56th minute of the match by Eddie Hernandez.
Honduras previously won the Central American Cup in 1993, 1995 and 2011.
