House destroyed by fire, burnt body found in the rubble
There was a fire in Belize City early this morning.
A 20 by 14 feet plywood structure situated at #139 Antelope Street extension was gutted.
Police say when arrived at the scene around 2:26 am Friday, they observed flamed coming off the remaining walls of the structure.
A government vehicle that was parked in front of the house was also damaged by fire.
Police say that around 3:50 am when the Fire Department had put out the blaze, firemen discovered the burnt body of the owner of the house Michael Reynolds, 33 on the floor of the structure.
Reynolds worked as a driver for the Ministry of Human Development. His body now lies at the morgue at the KHMH awaiting a post mortem examination.
An investigation by the police and fire service continues.
UPDATE: While police originally reported that the body found after the fire was put out is that of Michael Reynolds, they have subsequently issued a statement saying that it is not certain if the body is that of Reynolds. Here is the statement issued by the police press officer:
Ref: HOUSE FIRE/SUDDEN DEATH, please be informed that it is only an assumption at this time that the body found is that of 33 year old Michael Reynolds since the body was burnt beyond recognition and his whereabouts is unknown.
